Thibault Emin’s Else wins Best Picture at Screamfest 2024, captivating audiences with its haunting tale of a mysterious virus.
Screamfest® Horror Film Festival, the largest and longest-running horror film event in the U.S., has revealed its 2024 award winners. Held at the TCL Chinese Theater in Hollywood from October 8 to 17, the festival concluded with a special awards ceremony honoring legendary cinematographer Dean Cundey, ASC (Halloween, Jurassic Park, Apollo 13), who received a Lifetime Achievement Award presented by John Carpenter. The ceremony also featured a double-feature screening of Cundey’s iconic films The Thing and Halloween.
The night was full of accolades, with Else by Screamfest alum Thibault Emin winning multiple awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Cinematography, and Best Special Effects. Else star Matthieu Sampeur took home Best Actor, and the film also secured awards for Best Musical Score.
Anneke Sluiters won Best Actress for her role in Witte Wieven (Heresy) from the Netherlands, while Cold Wallet earned Kate Hickey the Best Editing award. The Audience Award went to Berta, directed by Lucía Forner Segarra.
In the short film categories, Be Right Back, directed by Lucas Paulino and Gabe Ibáñez, won Best Short Film, while Dagon, directed by Paolo Gaudio, took home Best Animated Short. Kayla Arend’s Leaving Yellowstone won Best Student Short.
