A24’s Friendship Drops Night-Vision Interview with Paul Rudd, Tim Robinson & Eric Rahill
Leave it to A24 to turn a press junket into an experimental comedy piece. In one of the strangest and most hilariously uncomfortable promos we’ve seen in a minute, the studio has dropped a night vision featurette for their upcoming comedy Friendship.
Shot entirely in the dark, the behind-the-scenes bit features writer-director Andrew DeYoung alongside stars Paul Rudd, Tim Robinson, and Eric Rahill, all sitting around awkwardly in night vision while discussing the oddities of male friendship. What unfolds is an offbeat, deadpan chat about funny text threads, watching porn on a Nintendo DS, and the weird ways adult men bond—stories that somehow get weirder in infrared green.
If you’re wondering whether A24 is trying to make dark-room interviews a thing, we don’t have the answer, but this one is absurd enough to be memorable. And thanks to the night vision, you’ll know exactly who’s revealing what about their awkward bro pasts.
Friendship follows suburban dad Craig (Robinson), whose life takes a chaotic turn when he becomes obsessed with befriending his charming new neighbor (Rudd). What starts as innocent dad-to-dad bonding spirals into a full-blown comedic nightmare.
The film hits select theaters May 9 and expands nationwide May 23. A24 also dropped a batch of character posters today, giving us our first proper look at this bromance-gone-sideways.
Get ready for Friendship, a twisted take on adult male bonding that’s more cringe than heartwarming—and all the better for it.
Suburban dad Craig falls hard for his charismatic new neighbor, as Craig’s attempts to make an adult male friend threaten to ruin both of their lives.
