Blood Hive 3 Delivers the Darkest, Weirdest Yellowjackets Score Yet

Lakeshore Records has officially dropped Blood Hive 3: Original Score from the TV Series Yellowjackets, timed to line up with the finale of Season 3. While we haven’t fully caught up on Yellowjackets—life, movies, deadlines, and about a hundred other horror releases got in the way—we’ve had this series in our sights since day one. We tried to binge Season 1 when it first aired, but never finished. The plan now? Wait it out and binge the entire thing once the show’s over. Until then, we’re letting the music guide us—and Blood Hive 3 might be the perfect way back into the wilderness.
Composers Craig Wedren (of Shudder to Think) and Anna Waronker (of that dog.) return for their third round, and they’re not just treading old ground. This time, the duo push the soundscape further into experimental, fractured, and emotionally haunted territory. If you’ve followed the show’s descent into psychological chaos and supernatural paranoia, this score feels like the next natural step—otherworldly but deeply personal. It’s the kind of music that sounds like it’s coming from the trees.
Their new original song “Sleepwalking” debuts in the Season 3 finale’s opening scene and anchors the release. Directed by series co-creator and showrunner Bart Nickerson, the video (also out now) captures that surreal, dreamy dread that defines so much of Yellowjackets. Wedren and Waronker say the song was partly inspired by Marianne Faithfull, and that it helped them tap into a “whole new wing of the haunted, fractal funhouse that is Yellowjackets.” Nickerson described seeing the song paired with the visuals for the first time as a visceral experience—“like someone had slammed their fist into my sternum—but in a good way.”
The tracklist is a wild ride on its own: everything from “Melissa’s Bad Day” to “The Birds and the Bees of Frog Orgies” to “Return of the Meat Shed” to “Partaking in Light Cannibalism” feels like a strange, beautiful nightmare you don’t want to wake up from. Collaborations with Caroline Shaw and Simón Wilson elevate several key moments, layering in haunting strings and textures that make this score feel lived in, raw, and unpredictable. Even if you’re not caught up on the show, Blood Hive 3 works as a standalone experience—part horror, part art installation, part emotional gut-punch.
