In an exclusive interview with Horror Movies Uncut, filmmaker Sam Fox provided insights into her latest horror-sci-fi short, The Blue Diamond. The idea for the film was sparked by Desiree Staples, who not only stars as Alison but also produced the project. Staples’ vision of blending ’80s ski culture with a horror twist served as the foundation for the film.
The setting, a mountain cabin that belongs to Staples’ family, added an authentic touch to the film’s backdrop, reinforcing its playful and sexy atmosphere. The film’s music, heavily inspired by retro synthwave, also contributed to the overall tone, complementing the visual style and era the film draws from.
Barbara Crampton’s portrayal of the cult leader brought a fun yet commanding presence to the film, seamlessly fitting into the story’s mix of horror and nostalgia.
Sam also revealed that she is currently writing a full-length feature version of The Blue Diamond, which will build on the characters and story introduced in the short.
