HOUSE OF ABRAHAM Finds a Fitting Home with Abramorama Ahead of Theatrical Debut
The last place you want to look for life’s answers is in the arms of a cult leader. Especially one who promises peace, ease, and a clean escape from suffering. In House of Abraham, the feature directorial debut from Lisa Belcher, that’s exactly the trap Dee (played by Species star Natasha Henstridge) falls into—and what she finds is anything but salvation.
Today, Abramorama announced it has acquired U.S. theatrical distribution rights for the film, and honestly, there isn’t a better name to carry a film about blind faith and manipulation into theaters. The film will begin its theatrical run in New York City on June 13th at LOOK Dine-In Cinemas, with a national rollout to follow.
Set in a remote and eerie countryside estate, House of Abraham follows a woman seeking release from the pain of her past. Haunted by memories of discovering her mother’s body as a child, Dee checks into a secluded retreat led by the enigmatic Abraham (Lukas Hassel, The Blacklist), who assures his guests that death can be delivered gently, lovingly—even beautifully.
There are seven guests total. One bell. One rule: if you’re ready to die, you ring the bell. Everyone gathers to say goodbye. But when one of the group vanishes without a trace, Dee uncovers the chilling truth—no one leaves the House of Abraham alive. What follows is a deadly game of survival, faith, and psychological unraveling that culminates in a finale no one will see coming.
Directed by Lisa Belcher and filmed in Austin, Texas, the project marks her transition from award-winning short filmmaker to feature-length director. “This film dares to tackle themes often overlooked by mainstream studios,” Belcher says. “It’s daring, it’s personal, and it was created with an incredibly passionate cast and crew.”
Alongside Henstridge and Hassel, the film stars horror legend Lin Shaye (Insidious, There’s Something About Mary), further cementing House of Abraham as a must-watch for genre fans. The film was produced by Belcher, Paul Merryman (The Outpost), and Melissa Kirkendall (Accidental Texan), with executive producers including Sid Ganis, Vance & Priscilla Hinton, Natasha Henstridge, and Lin Shaye.
Abramorama CEO Karol Martesko-Fenster praised the film as a “true thrill ride,” saying, “Combining elements of mystery and horror with a touch of social satire, director Lisa Belcher has crafted a true original. We’re excited to bring House of Abraham to audiences across North America.”
One part psychological horror, one part slow-burn cult thriller, House of Abraham looks ready to take on questions of death, control, and the human urge to escape pain—by any means necessary.
Catch it in NYC starting June 13, with more dates and cities to be announced.
