"Little Bites" - movie review

Krsy Fox masterfully anchors Little Bites, an unsettling creature feature that unearths the darker complexities of motherhood and hidden monsters. (Shudder)

One of the films that caught everyone’s attention this past week was Little Bites, the new creature feature from Spider One. Starring and produced by the talented Krsy Fox, the film follows her character, a mother hiding a dark secret that threatens to unravel the fragile bond with her daughter. Little Bites is a chilling, atmospheric creature feature that explores the struggles of single motherhood and the monsters within us all.

The most captivating aspect of Little Bites is its story. While the film doesn’t fully explain how its characters find themselves in their predicament, this ambiguity adds to the eerie tone. The narrative feels like a dark fairy tale that hints at a grim conclusion. The film teases brutality but chooses a slow, methodical build-up to horror rather than relying on immediate gore. Krsy Fox handles the weight of the film effortlessly, but her character, much like the story itself, seems to stumble through the darkness, searching for clarity.

Jon Sklaroff, who plays the monster, injects humor into his scenes with Fox, creating moments that blend both fear and fun, elevating the overall experience. The title Little Bites perfectly reflects the film’s approach, as we are given only small glimpses of the story, the characters, and the scares. There’s even a moment in the film where Fox’s character hints at this very idea, making it clear this was the intention all along.

Despite its potential, Little Bites falls short due to a lack of narrative direction and visceral carnage, leaving viewers unsure of what they’ve just invested in. While all the elements for a great dark fairy tale are present, the story’s weakness prevents it from truly shining. Nevertheless, with its strong production and Spider One’s vision, we’re eager to see what comes next. As for Krsy Fox, her performance leaves us excited for her future projects.
