Metrograph Pictures has revealed a striking new poster for Gazer, Ryan J. Sloan’s noir-styled thriller that garnered critical acclaim on last year’s festival circuit. Now, audiences everywhere will get the chance to experience this gripping, time-bending tale when it hits theaters on April 4th.
Gazer follows a young mother (co-writer Ariella Mastroianni) who suffers from a rare condition that distorts her perception of time. Desperate to secure her daughter’s future before it’s too late, she takes on a high-stakes job from a mysterious woman with a dark past. What begins as a risky gig soon pulls her into a tense web of revenge, deception, and murder.
Sloan’s debut feature was shot on 16mm film over two years, with production squeezed into weekends while he worked as an electrician and Mastroianni pursued film programming in New York. A love letter to the paranoia thrillers of the ’70s and ’80s, Gazer is both a masterful tribute and a bold reimagining of classic genre storytelling.
Ahead of its wide release, Gazer will have select New York screenings, including in-person Q&As with Sloan and Mastroianni.
