Rupert Friend has signed on to star in The Edge of Normal, a psychological thriller alongside Chloë Grace Moretz, marking the English-language feature debut for Piggy director Carlota Pereda. Written by Matt Venne (Dexter: Resurrection, Test Drive) with revisions by Lori Evans Taylor (Final Destination: Bloodlines), the film is adapted from Carla Norton’s acclaimed novel of the same name.

The Edge of Normal follows Reeve LeClaire (Moretz), a young woman still haunted by her past captivity at the hands of a sadistic man. Years after her escape, her psychiatrist (Friend) asks her to mentor a newly rescued survivor. What begins as a support system soon morphs into a chilling game of cat and mouse—one that threatens to pull Reeve back into the nightmare she barely survived.

The film is produced and financed by XYZ Films with funding from IPR.VC, while Vanishing Angle produces alongside Andrew Deane and Ava Jamshidi for Industry Entertainment. CAA Media Finance is handling domestic sales with XYZ.

Rupert Friend has been on a roll, starring in New Line’s Companion earlier this year, along with two critically acclaimed films at the Berlin Film Festival: Michel Franco’s Dreams and Lucio Castro’s After This Death. He’ll next be seen in Jurassic World: Rebirth and Wes Anderson’s The Phoenician Scheme later this summer. Known for his Emmy-nominated role in Homeland, Friend has also starred in Obi-Wan Kenobi, The Death of Stalin, and Asteroid City.

XYZ Films’ upcoming slate includes The Trip, starring Jason Segel, Samara Weaving, Juliette Lewis, and Timothy Olyphant, currently in production; Gareth Evans’ Havoc, starring Tom Hardy and Forest Whitaker, set to premiere on Netflix this year; and The Ritual, a true-story exorcism thriller starring Al Pacino and Dan Stevens, hitting theaters this spring. The company is also behind Kill Me, starring Charlie Day and Allison Williams, and Ash, the cosmic horror feature from Flying Lotus starring Eiza González and Aaron Paul, releasing this week from IFC.

Industry Entertainment, meanwhile, is producing Man With A Bag for Amazon and Runner, starring Alan Ritchson and Owen Wilson. Deane recently executive-produced Woman of the Hour, directed by and starring Anna Kendrick, which is set to release on Netflix.

Rupert Friend is repped by UTA, Brillstein Entertainment Partners, and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller, Hoberman, Newman, Warren, Richman, Rush, Kaller, Gellman, Meigs & Fox.

Stay tuned for more updates on The Edge of Normal as production moves forward!
