Today kicks off the start of the new Amazon Studios series of films WELCOME TO BLUMHOUSE. From the producers of damn near every big horror hit in the last 3 years. Two films will release each week through the month of October and our first review is for the thriller THE LIE from Veena Sud.
Starring an alluring cast, THE LIE follows a young lady who hides behind a tragic incident with a friend whom she is responsible for. A family already ripped apart due to divorce must now come together for this very scary and uncertain time. THE LIE will draw you in as clearly the notion of "close to home" is instantaneous from the being of the story. Kayla (Joey King) and her father and mother are like any family you know. Sure we all have our issues but at the end of the day all we want to do is protect our loves ones. That's what THE LIE really boils down to. What are you willing to protect and how far will you go? Smart viewers will enjoy the feature as it also shows who deep you might already be in a situation before you realize it's too late.
When you wrap up THE LIE hopefully many emotions will run through as the betrayal and deceit really hits the upper limits. Kids can be terrible and the THE LIE is a great example of that. But, parents can be even worse and believe me you will experience each one of these moments with rewarding performances by Mireille Enos and Peter Sarsgaard. THE LIE is a great way to kick off this series as it allows for the viewers no to think "here we go with another black mirror mishap" and sets WELCOME aside as some thought provoking thrillers to look forward to. All these movies would do fine it seems by themselves but Prime users get a special treat this month watching them for free. After seeing THE LIE I suggest you do so. Dauting, cruel and vastly entertaining THE LIE is a great start to the WELCOME TO BLUMHOUSE series.
